Southampton Science Park in Southampton is
planning to build a second Business Incubator to accommodate the
increasing demand from entrepreneurs in South Hampshire.
The Park, has lodged a planning
application with Test Valley Borough Council following the extraordinary
success of the Business Incubator that was opened earlier this year by
Lord Sainsbury, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Science
and Innovation.
Lord Sainsbury opened the Business
Incubator in February this year and it has become home to fledgling new
science and technology-based businesses, some of which have emerged from
research at Southampton University. Today the Business Incubator is
fully occupied.
"Science Parks have a significant role to
play in the exploitation of results of scientific research and in the
facilitation of growth of high-tech businesses, said Lord Sainsbury.
Universities, Science Parks and Incubators have a key role to play in
building a safer, healthier society; a cleaner environment and a dynamic
knowledge based economy in the 21st century. This new Business Incubator
will help turn these ambitions into reality."
The original Business Incubator received
European funding and is part of the South East England Development
Agency's Southampton Innovation Hub. Don Fox, Managing Director of
Southampton Science Park, said, "The Business Incubator is an exciting
new development for Southampton Science Park and supports new science
and technology-based businesses, which can take advantage of facilities
at Southampton University." |
