The Health
Technology Assessment programme (HTA), is making the
move to Southampton Science Park. They are
undergoing a period of major expansion and staff
recruitment due to a substantial government
investment in health research.
The HTA is managed by
the National Co-ordinating Centre for HTA (NCCHTA),
which was set up in 1996 to provide the scientific
and management support for the HTA programme, the
largest single national research programme for the
NHS. Investing more than £160 million in NHS
research it has commissioned some of the most
significant clinical trials to be carried out in the
NHS.
The NCCHTA is scaling
up its operations and is currently recruiting people
with a background in health research, clinical
knowledge or management support. These new posts
will allow for the expansion of the HTA programme,
and the establishment of other new health research
programmes.
In this period of
rapid expansion, the NCCHTA has outgrown its current
premises on the University of Southampton’s
Boldrewood Campus. With Southampton Science Park
only a short distance away providing modern
accommodation and facilities, the move allows
changes in health research to be met through the
growth at NCCHTA. A new location will ensure that
the most important clinical trials and health
research can continue to be commissioned.
