The
Business Incubator at Southampton Science Park has a new arrival in the shape of
Mesophotonics.
A
spin-out company from the University of Southampton, Mesophotonics was established in July 2001 to develop and
commercialise photonic crystal technology in the fields of
microphotonics, telecommunications and computing.
The
company has been formed by a team of seven scientists, and in
partnership with BTG, the global technology company, and the
University, aims to develop photonic crystal devices, design
products and take them to market.
The
technology developed by the team allows light to be bent,
routed and processed at sub-millimetre scale.
The
scientists include specialists in the fields of photonics,
computer modelling and optical characterisation. They have
been working together at the University of Southampton on
photonic crystal circuits and devices and are internationally
recognised for their research and contributions to scientific
literature.
While
still maintaining strong links with the University,
Mesophotonics is expanding and aims to be the leading provider
of devices for microphotonics, telecommunications and
computing applications.
"Southampton Science Park has a great deal to offer high-tech companies
such as Mesophotonics," said Professor Greg Parker,
Technical Director. "The quality of the Business Incubator
is very high - we are able to bring in customers from all over
the world and be proud of our working environment.
"For
any budding entrepreneur at the University contemplating a
spin-out company, Southampton Science Park has a great deal to
offer."
