The Olive
Consultancy are leaders in sustainability. Based at
Southampton Science Park, they are a fast growing
three-year old company in a rapidly evolving market.
Clients range from highly technical aerospace and
defence manufacturers to well known high street
retailers and include many aspects of the public
sector.
As part of their
commitment to support research into environmental
issues, Olive will be mentoring three MSc students
from the University of Southampton whose research
will support ways of reducing the carbon and other
environmental impacts of various aspects of our
daily lives. The projects are as follows:
Carbon Footprints
of Different Diets
Zhe Yang BSc will examine the life cycle of
several staple diets from around the world to rank
their carbon and other sustainability impacts. This
will help to identify and promote more
environmentally sustainable diets.
The Value to
Consumers of “Green Branding” Messages
Stephanie Maingret (on secondment from the Ecole
Centrale de Lyon) will contrast the objectives of
the various green messages put out by brands against
the messages received by the consumers. This will
help brands to communicate effectively with their
consumers and will help to raise awareness of good
sustainable retailing practices.
Ranking Drivers of
Sustainable Construction
Maxime Boucher BSc will research and rank, by
environmental benefit, the legislative and other
drivers of sustainability in construction. This will
help architects, developers and planners to
prioritise the sustainability standards to be set
for future building projects, whether commercial or
residential.
Olive selected the
three projects from a short list of seven, as they
were judged to be of significant potential value in
driving sustainability. They look forward to
bringing the findings of the work to the benefit of
the widest possible audience.
