Started in 2002,
Meridian Technique perfectly fits the profile of companies at the
Southampton Science Park. A high tech company, Meridian developed
and launched OrthoView, an orthopaedic digital imaging solution, to
become in a short space of time, the most widely used planning and
templating solution in the world.
The innovative software
allows orthopaedic surgeons pre-operatively to plan and template
surgical procedures on-screen. Traditionally, surgeons plan surgery
using X-ray films. As hospitals throughout the world start to phase
out film X-rays and introduce digital images, OrthoView not only
allows the surgeon to continue planning surgical procedures, but can
also make the process easier and more accurate.
This rapid expansion means the company has its software installed in
over 650 hospitals worldwide, in over twenty different countries. In
the UK, over fifty hospitals are now using OrthoView and Meridian is
making inroads into the lucrative American market. They plan to open
a new office in Boston, USA and have just taken on a US sales
manager to spearhead the expansion. They have also recruited an
international sales manager, who will be based at the Head Office,
but will lead the sales drive worldwide and liaise with the many
partners Meridian work with in the distribution of OrthoView.
The key to this success story is working closely together with
members of the medical profession to develop the right solution for
the surgeon. This has included liaising with implant manufacturers,
for instance, to ensure that the digital templates are in line with
their surgical guidelines. John Chambers, Managing Director of
Meridian says, 'We are a young company with a relaxed approach to
