Mesophotonics Ltd
was launched in 2001 to design and develop photonic
crystal nano devices, design products and take them
to market. A University of Southampton spin-out
company, its team has unique skills in modelling and
understanding sub-wavelength structures. It
outsources the semiconductor and device fabrication
in order to concentrate on modelling, design,
testing, applications, production, engineering and
sales. The company employs 20 professionals in the
fields of sales, marketing, research science,
engineering, finance and chemistry. Mesophotonics
was named as one of the top 100 European technology
companies to watch in 2005.
Mesophotonics began in
the University of Southampton but quickly moved into
the Business Incubator at Southampton Science
Park. The company initially leased a single room
under flexible break terms but, as the operation
expanded, have been able to increase their footprint
under the Science Park's priority arrangements
for existing tenants. With the support of the
Science Park, they have also been able to customise
some of their accommodation to provide clean
laboratory facilities. The company has also made
use of the high quality meeting room facilities
on site in hosting its Taiwanese partners and has
strong links with technical experts in the
University.
James McKenzie, the CEO,
said “Southampton Science Park's Business Incubator
makes the perfect place for Mesophotonics to be
based. It offers flexibility in the type of space
available from development through to production on
flexible lease terms. Over the last few years Meso
has been able to expand space on a room by room
basis, only taking what's needed.” |
