Driving responsible journeys

As part of a continuing goal to support responsible transport strategies, Southampton Science Park was delighted to officially launch a new bus service this summer in collaboration with Xelabus. The bus uses the latest Euro-6 compliant green engine technology whereby  particulate filters reduce harmful pollutants in emissions.

The Science Park’s CEO Robin Chave commented: “We are absolutely thrilled with our new branded bus! Its arrival on the Park is a highly visible reminder to resident employees and visitors alike of our commitment to supporting their efforts to reduce solo car trips when coming to the Science Park. In this way, we hope that the new  bus service will encourage people to embrace more greener transport options while also relieving the personal cost and stress, so often experienced when commuting on the South’s busy roads.”

Joining Robin Chave, Jane Holt and Stuart Perry from the Science Park for the launch were Gareth Blair of service provider Xelabus, Orbay Keskin, Southampton City Council Senior Transport Planner, and David Gleeve, Nick Adams-King and Alison Finlay representing Test Valley Borough Council and Chilworth Parish Council.

The new X21 Service will service multiple transport routes to and from the Science Park operating via Portswood, Wessex Lane, Parkway Station, Stoneham Lane, Chestnut Avenue, Asda Roundabout, Bournemouth Road, Birch Road and then to a variety of bus stops across the Science Park site. At Parkway, connections with Xelabus X4 will enable ongoing bus journeys to Hedge End, West End and Mansbridge, while South West Trains offers services to the wider area. This service will also operate three lunchtime services to local superstore, Asda.
