Securing investment

Renovos, one of the residents Southampton Science Park, has won further funding to develop its ground-breaking nanoclay technology.

The company’s latest award is via the highly competitive SMART competition run by Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency. SMART grants fund ambitious or disruptive innovations that can make a significant impact on the UK economy. The news follows an announcement earlier this year that Renovos was the first company to receive investment from a newly launched Ronald Furlong Fund, set up by the charity Orthopaedic Research UK.

The funding will enable Renovos to further develop its pioneering use of synthetic nanoclays in regenerative medicine and accelerate its path to regulatory approval. The technology allows a 100x lower dose of regenerative therapeutic agent to be precisely delivered and localised to the sites where needed, fundamentally changing the way extremely powerful and sometimes harmful drugs are given around bone.

Renovos technology has attracted significant investor attention since its inception just three years ago. The company’s Founder and CEO, Agnieszka Janeczek, spoke recently of her experiences of securing investment in Southampton Science Park’s SO Magazine.
