UKSPA’s Summer Conference
The UK Science Park Association (UKSPA) held its summer conference at Rothamsted Enterprises in Hertfordshire, which focuses on addressing the needs of researchers in the agri-tech sector. The formal programme followed an interesting tour of Rothamsted’s sample archive, a unique scientific resource containing over a third of a million plant and soil samples that shed light on the impacts of farming over decades of studies.
Subjects covered at this conference were wide ranging, from driving regional growth and engaging with tenants to deliver an effective net zero strategy, to the continuing hot topic of balancing supply and demand for facilities in the life science sector. Three interesting keynotes on Harnessing the Power of Artificial Intelligence, How to Put R&D on the Map, and Putting the Pieces Together for Local Growth, were all warmly welcomed.
Southampton Science Park CEO, Robin Chave, and Finance Director, Vicki Roath were in attendance.
Robin reflected, “The UKSPA summer conference was a great opportunity to network with other science parks and to spend some time focussing on the needs of life sciences and biotech companies. Fascinating discussions about current trends in the supply and demand for laboratory space were pertinent at a point when we are committing to a brand new laboratory building. There was also plenty of experience and knowledge in the room to draw on in such diverse areas as sustainable buildings and artificial intelligence. As usual, I came away full of thoughts about how we can learn from some of the things being implemented by our colleagues around the country.”
Vicki added, “UKSPA conferences offer valuable opportunities to connect with the science park community and explore the economic trends influencing our sector. They foster the idea exchange that helps ensure that our Park remains responsive and adaptable in a dynamic economic landscape.”
