Wireless communication is now ubiquitous, with technology advances enabling ever more demanding applications. Mobile handset users are increasingly using the 4G cellular network for watching high definition video and for low delay Internet browsing. New applications like online gaming, virtual reality, cloud applications, vehicular safety and remote control of robotics will underpin the drive towards higher data rates and lower delays in 5G. Specialist proprietary wireless systems are also increasingly used for high data-rate and low delay applications, such as low-latency capital market trading, wireless ad-hoc networking and satellite communication.
However, these technology advances have been stalled by a bottleneck, which is imposed by the biggest part of the processing involved in wireless communication, namely the error correction that must be performed to ensure reliability. This bottleneck will prevent the achievement of the target data-rate in 4.5G and 5G base-stations, as well as in 5G handsets, unless parallel processing is used, which imposes a severe integration problem. Even worse, this bottleneck will prevent the achievement of the target communication delay in 5G base-stations and handsets, preventing the new applications listed above.
As a fabless non-manufacturing semiconductor IP company, AccelerComm offers a unique technology that solves exactly these problems, both in the cellular and specialist markets, where the former is sub-divided into test equipment, base-station and handset sub-markets. Our current portfolio of patented and patent-pending error correction acceleration technology comprises two unmatched product lines – turbo coding acceleration and polar coding acceleration. Both radically change the design of this error correction processing – for the first time in 20 years in turbo coding acceleration and both first-to-market and best-in-class in polar coding acceleration. Through our unique approach to breaking the data dependencies in the decoding process, our turbo coding implementation enjoy 10 times improvement to data rate and 10 times reduction to delay while maintaining comparable hardware efficiency, energy efficiency and error correction capability, and our polar coding implementation enjoy 10 times hardware efficiency improvement while offering the same error correction capability. All are measured against the current state-of-the-art solutions. In addition, turbo coding technology is backwards compatible with 4G and 4.5G, and our polar coding technology is fully compliant with the recent 5G standards. Unlike conventional error correction decoders, our technology can gracefully scale down to Internet of Things applications and gracefully scale up to base-station applications.
