NIHR CLAHRC Wessex conducts applied health research as part of the National Institute for Health Research, the research arm of the NHS.

We are the Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care for Wessex. As part of the National Institute for Health Research our vision is to improve the health of the people of Wessex and the quality and cost-effectiveness of healthcare. We achieve this through a step change in the integration and pathways of care for people with long-term conditions, and reducing admissions and re-admissions to hospital by using more efficient and appropriate healthcare.

We have six main research areas covering: Respiratory Health, Ageing and Dementia, Fundamental Hospital Care, Public Health and Primary Care, Engagement with Self-Directed Support and Complexity at End of Life. They are all supported by our Central team, Patient and Public Involvement team and our Data Science team.

We are funded for 5 years until September 2019 and bring together academic and clinical expertise for the benefit of our community.
