Propelling UK industrial leadership

Southampton Science Park company Nquiringminds has been featured as a case study in the Government’s Industrial Strategy which is designed to “help propel Britain to global leadership of the industries of the future,” according to the Prime Minster, Theresa May.

The case study, ‘The Growth of Nquiringminds’, underlines the Government’s commitment to fostering SME growth in innovation and it serves to highlight a successful example of how Small Business Research Initiative support led to a successful collaboration in the public sector.

It cites work undertaken with Belfast City Council, where Nquiringminds introduced its Trusted Data Exchange (TDX) to optimise the collection of business rates in the city. TDX is a cloud-based secure data platform designed with the connected economy in mind. Powered by artificial intelligence, it allows users to share data sets securely, in turn maximising the ability to analyse and generate actionable insight.

The Prime Minister says of the Industrial Strategy: “This Industrial Strategy will help young people develop the skills they need to do the high-paid, high-skilled jobs of the future. It backs our country for the long term: creating the conditions where successful businesses can emerge and grow, and helping them to invest in the future of our nation. And it identifies the industries that are of strategic value to our economy and works to create a partnership between government and industry to nurture them. In doing so, it will help propel Britain to global leadership of the industries of the future - from artificial intelligence and big data to clean energy and self-driving vehicles.”

Nquiringminds has been supported by Southampton SETsquared at the Science Park since 2010. In that time it has grown from its two founders to employing ten staff with clients across the public and private sector spectrum.

"SETsquared has provided the ideal nurturing environment for a high tech start up."

Nick Allott, Nquiringminds Founder

Company founder Nick Allott said: “SETsquared Southampton has been an important part of our journey. The staff at SETsquared have provided the ideal nurturing environment for a high tech start up. The timely introductions to partner companies and insightful mentoring have been a critical success factor in our growth to date.”
