Fusing Food With Care
Robin Chave, Science Park CEO was recently invited to a roundtable discussion on sustainable business: the key takeaways can be found here on Hampshire Biz.
Its publication is a timely opportunity to round up some of the sustainable activities that we undertake across the Science Park every day in line with our commitment to reach net zero carbon for scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 2030.
As well as rolling out solar power and supporting residents with alternative approaches to their daily commutes, our Fusion coffee shop team has been working hard to minimise their environmental impact, fusing great food and service with care for the environment. Here’s how.
Responsible sourcing
- Sourcing products and ingredients - including sustainable Fair Trade coffee and fresh fruit and vegetables - locally from companies in Romsey, Andover and Hamble Valley.
- Using environmentally-friendly cleaning products and equipment in partnership with Greenzest sustainable cleaning.
Energy efficiency
- Sourcing energy from rooftop photovoltaic systems.
- Reducing energy consumption with air fryers and LED lighting.
- Delivering conference catering orders across the Park on foot, or with an electric vehicle.
Waste Reduction
- Minimising food waste by using ingredients right across daily menus and looking into a partnership with food waste app, Too Good To Go.
- Not using any single use plastics, instead offering compostable cups, wooden stirrers and paper straws. Customers who bring their Fusion reusable cups are rewarded with a 15% discount on their drink order.
- Encouraging customers not to have beverage lids or receipts, unless they really need them!
- Recycling via segmented facilities both behind the scenes and for customer use.
- Not sending any waste from anywhere on the Science Park to landfill.
We want to minimise our impact on the environment in every way possible and we’re always looking for new ways to do this, so please do let the Science Park office team know if you have any other ideas that you’d like us to explore.
