Acquired for excellence
vivaMOS, a leader in high-end large-area CMOS image sensors, has been acquired by Ohio-based Nordson Corporation. The company will become part of the Test and Inspection division within Nordson’s Advanced Technology Solutions segment, building on its strategic objective to enhance its test and inspection capabilities for diverse end markets.
vivaMOS, established in 2015 as a spinout from the UK’s Science and Technology Facilities Council, moved its offices to Southampton Science Park in 2016. Since then, it has won several prestigious awards for its unique technology and commercial success, and it has moved premises on the Science Park three times to accommodate its growth. The company plans to remain at Southampton Science Park.
Dan Cathie, Business Director, X-ray Components, said the acquisition will serve to accelerate the promising growth to date: “We are very excited about this acquisition by Nordson, which will make us bigger, better, faster. We look forward to delivering our ambitious plans for the new combined X-ray Components business further and wider together, thanks to their market reach and strong brand image.”
Jeff Pembroke, Executive Vice President, Advanced Technology Solutions at Nordson, commented: “We have been collaborating closely with vivaMOS for several years, and we are excited about furthering our relationship and welcoming vivaMOS employees to the Nordson family. This acquisition gives Nordson differentiated and leading-edge X-ray sensor technology that will substantially enhance our product offerings across multiple end markets. Large panel CMOS sensors represent a critical technology for X-ray imaging. We look forward to further integrating the industry-leading sensor technology and expertise while developing new test and inspection innovations to offer our customers.”
Robin Chave, Southampton Science Park CEO, added: “vivaMOS’s growth trajectory has been extremely impressive. We are delighted with the news of its acquisition, which will provide the investment and access to new markets that it needs to grow further.
“vivaMOS is an excellent example of what we do here: our primary goal is to help science and technology businesses at all stages grow to their full commercial potential. We do so through business support and the provision of high quality business accommodation with in-built flexibility to facilitate, rather than restrain, expansion.”
