Ideas worth backing

In March 2021, the companies that won a place on Catalyst, the Science Park’s business accelerator programme pitched to a packed (virtual, on this occasion) room of investors, advisors and influencers. 

The presentations are powerful, well prepared and reveal staggeringly strong business propositions that tackle a wide range of real-world problems. Following the event, several attendees commented on how impressive the pitches were and indicated that they would be able to offer support. 

Robin Chave, Science Park CEO, remarked, “This has been one of the strongest Catalyst cohorts since we started the initiative. Despite not being able to bring everyone together as we would usually, all participants adapted well and committed to the programme enthusiastically. Most importantly, it was clear to me from their final pitch presentations that they have all benefited from working with our experts in the commercialisation of technology. I wish them all well and look forward to witnessing their undoubtable future success.” 

•  Marat Lutfullin presented Quantum Solutions’ approach to scalable, high quality quantum dot manufacturing, a huge growth market for corporates working on image sensors. The company is now looking to grow its sales and marketing team and boost production. 
• Antony Quinn revealed Maverick Aviation’s portable, powerful personal jetpacks which are set to revolutionise the way that military personnel and first responders access hard to reach places. The company is now looking for investment to accelerate regulatory approval. 
• Caroline Gadd presented Otsuka Health Solutions’ MaST, which uses analytics to predict and prioritise those most at risk of a mental health crisis to assist front line staff with their decision making. The company is moving fast towards full commercialisation. 
• Ali Mosayyebi of Sooba Medical explained how his patented device reduces the need to replace urinary tract stents – a painful procedure for patients and a costly one for the NHS. The company is looking for grant funding to progress regulatory approval and human trials. 
• Rod Lane unveiled Zelemiq Health’s non-invasive, rapid and reliable way to monitor blood sugar levels which will enable people to make better lifestyle choices and help prevent pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes occurring. The company is looking for crowdfunding to develop awareness for this massive market opportunity. 
• Nic Cory showcased Absolar’s remote solar PV assessment tool which accelerates feasibility studies and funding decisions through automated actionable intelligence down to individual building level. The company is looking for investment to broaden its market reach. 
• Mitch Wisniewski demonstrated how Other Skies’ Immersive 3D experience creates places for people to interact for emotionally driven sales experiences. In the midst of a ‘bricks to clicks’ revolution in property sales, the company is looking for support to explore other large market segments.
