Future Towns are Here

We are delighted to be welcoming colleagues from the Future Towns Innovation Hub to their new home within the Science Park’s brand new Engineering Centre.

Headed by the University of Southampton’s Professor Paul Kemp, this new joint industry-academic centre of excellence aims to bring together concepts, research and commercial expertise to make the Enterprise M3 area a happier, healthier, and cleaner place to live. Critical challenges that the Hub will address include energy efficient housing, water conservation, sustainable transport, carbon neutral waste management and recycling, and improving health outcomes.

Professor Mark Spearing, Vice President of Research and Enterprise at the University of Southampton said: “This is a very important investment from the University that will maximise the impact of our research related to the environmental and sustainability challenges faced by local towns and their businesses. We look forward to working with businesses throughout our community, helping them find solutions to these challenges and ensure towns in our region and across the UK can meet the demands of the modern world.”

Science Park CEO, Dr Robin Chave, commented: “Southampton Science Park, already a magnet for the commercialisation of research and new technologies in the south, is uniquely positioned to host this new facility and we are delighted to be at the forefront of this exciting initiative. I’m absolutely confident that the positive societal impacts arising from this new centre will resonate significantly beyond our region’s boundaries and for generations to come.”

The Science Park’s new Engineering Centre, which provides further workshop and office accommodation, will be officially opened this summer.
