A Slice of Something Nice!

A whopping £790 was raised for cancer support at Southampton Science Park’s Macmillan coffee morning on 25 September.

Board Director Mike Austin organised this year’s event, supported by Letoya Baptista.

Mike said, “Like many people, my family and friends have been affected by cancer and have benefitted from the wonderful Macmillan support and care. The money we raised today will fund nurses and the support line to help many more people.

“I have been so touched by the wonderful response of bakers and cake providers and the people we met during the event who donated so generously. It was great to bring the Science Park community together to help this brilliant cause. Huge thanks to everyone and a special shout out to the companies who donated cakes!”

Letoya added, “On behalf of the Science Park team, I want to thank Mike and Gina Austin for their amazing support in bringing this event to life this year, and to all the wonderful people and companies across the park who donated their time and culinary skills: Birthglide, Sky, SouthWestSensor, Spectrum IT Recruitment, Superreel, Symetrica, Troudigital – and the Science Park team of course!”

The first Macmillan coffee morning took place in 1990. It was a small affair with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their drink to Macmillan. It was so effective that the charity did it again next year - only this time nationally. Since then, millions of people from across the UK come together at the end of September to have fun and raise money for a good cause. Big or small events, they all have two things in common: they are a great way to bring people together for a slice of something nice, and they raise vital funds to support the almost 3.5 million people in the UK living with cancer, from the moment they are diagnosed, throughout treatment and beyond.
