Fuelling responsible journeys
Three new dual electric vehicle charge points are now operational across Southampton Science Park for the benefit of both resident employees and visitors to the park.
The new charge points are located across the Science Park estate at Venture Road car park, Enterprise Road car park and at Benham campus car park. Each point can charge two cars simultaneously and offer both 16 and 32 amp charge supply. Easy to use on a pay as you go basis with no pre-booking required, drivers simply sign-up, select how long they wish to charge for and pay using mobile connectivity. The service is available from 8am until 9pm daily.
Further charge points are planned to extend the service to offer close proximity charging to other buildings on site; part of a comprehensive commitment to support those that wish to explore new transport options, as Stuart Perry, Operations Manager at Southampton Science Park, explains. “The benefits of our out-of-town location are numerous and valued highly by all that come to do business here. At the same time, we wish to ensure that we do everything we can to protect our local area and play a part in reducing pollution and congestion across the South’s busy roads. Our new electronic vehicle charge points form part of an ongoing initiative designed to help people rethink their car journeys here.”
The Science Park already has facilities to support those who wish to embrace alternative methods of transport including secure cycle storage and shower facilities, a car-share scheme in partnership with Liftshare, an Enterprise Car Club Scheme and a specially contracted public bus service for those living in close proximity to the Park.
