Welcome Droplet Scientific
Southampton Science Park is pleased to welcome Droplet Scientific to its innovation-led community. The company has taken laboratory space in Epsilon house to facilitate ongoing research and development.
Droplet Scientific is a University of Southampton spin-out and is currently working through Southampton Science Park’s business accelerator programme, Catalyst.
This early stage company is transforming point-of-care diagnostics and precision medicine through ingenious wearable and portable technology which delivers laboratory-grade performance. Its compact, user-friendly devices support critical-care and clinical diagnostics through continuous, autonomous, and real-time biomarker monitoring, such as lactate, glucose, and therapeutic drugs.
Founder and inventor, Professor Xize Niu is a serial entrepreneur, having previously been involved in three spinout companies including SouthWestSensor, which has office space in the Science Park’s Innovation Centre. Here, he was successful in raising significant investment for the company’s groundbreaking water sensors, which accurately detect adverse changes to water quality in-situ, enabling early interventions. He has also published over 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers on microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip, applied for 7 patents and led multiple UK research grants totalling over £3million.
